The national day of Canada

Originally called Dominion Day and was renamed in 1982

Often referred to as Canada’s Birthday

Canada Day is observed on July 1st unless that date falls on a Sunday, in which case July 2nd

Traditions include bonfires, fireworks, illuminations, excursions, military displays, music, and entertainment

In 2022 festivities will return being re-located from Parlement Hill to Lebreton Flats

Erin O’Toole criticized calls to cancel Canada Day celebrations because he was “concerned that injustices in our past or in  the present are too often seized upon by a small group of activist voices who use it to attack the very idea of Canada itself”, and that “the road to reconciliation, the road to equality, the road to inclusion, does not involve tearing Canada down.”
